How is the CRS score calculated?
The Comprehensive Ranking System gives Express Entry candidates up to 1,200 points. Up to 600 come from age, education, official languages and Canadian work experience, including your spouse’s factors and skill transferability. The other 600 are additional points, and almost all of those come from a provincial nomination. Since March 25, 2025, a job offer adds no CRS points. IRCC invites the highest-ranked candidates in each draw, so your score only means something next to recent cut-offs.

The four parts of your CRS score
Every Express Entry profile is scored the same way. Being married or in a common-law relationship, with your partner coming to Canada, moves some points from you to your partner.
| Part | With a spouse or partner | Single |
|---|---|---|
| Core: age, education, language, Canadian work | 460 | 500 |
| Spouse or partner: education, language, Canadian work | 40 | 0 |
| Skill transferability | 100 | 100 |
| Additional points | 600 | 600 |
| Total | 1,200 | 1,200 |
Core human capital
Age (most points from 20 to 29), education, your first and second official language, and skilled Canadian work in the last 10 years. Language alone is worth up to 160 points.
Spouse or partner
Only if your partner comes with you and is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Their education, language test and Canadian work add up to 40 points.
Skill transferability
Combinations reward strong profiles: education with language or Canadian work, foreign work with language or Canadian work, and a trade certificate with language. Capped at 100.
Additional points
A provincial nomination (600), strong French (up to 50), a post-secondary credential from Canada (up to 30) and a brother or sister in Canada (15).
Job offers no longer add CRS points
Many older calculators still include job offer points and overstate scores by 50 or 200. This one follows IRCC’s current criteria page, and the date at the top of this page tells you when we last checked it.
Enter your real test scores, not a guess
The calculator converts your scores to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels with IRCC’s own charts. Each ability is scored on its own, so one weak ability costs points even when the others are strong.
- English: IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core.
- French: TEF Canada (use the “Équivalence ancien score”) or TCF Canada.
- Results are valid for 2 years from the test date, both when you enter the pool and when you apply.
- CLB 9 in every ability is the big jump: it raises your language points and doubles two skill transferability combinations. See what CLB 9 takes.
How to count your years of work
For the CRS, a year of work is 1,560 hours: 30 hours a week for 12 months, or the same total in part-time work. Hours over 30 a week do not count. Only paid, skilled work in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 in the last 10 years counts.
Canadian work has to be done with authorization, and self-employment or work done while you were a full-time student does not count as Canadian experience. Count your hours job by job, and check your NOC code to make sure the job is TEER 0 to 3.
What is a good CRS score?
A good score is one at or above the cut-off of the draws you can be invited in. That depends on the type of draw.
General draws
Open to candidates from every Express Entry program. These usually have the highest cut-offs.
Program draws
For one program, most often the Canadian Experience Class or the Provincial Nominee Program. Nominee draws have high cut-offs because of the 600 extra points. CRS for the CEC.
Category draws
For candidates with strong French or recent work in a listed occupation, such as healthcare or trades. Cut-offs are often lower. See the NOC codes on each list.

How accurate is this calculator?
It uses IRCC’s published points tables, coded exactly and checked against worked examples every time the site is built. The CRS is a fixed formula, so there is nothing to guess. Differences from your real score almost always come from the inputs: your age on the day of the invitation, which credential your ECA confirms, or how many hours of your work count.
For a second opinion, IRCC has its own CRS tool. Your official score is the one in your Express Entry profile.
Where this information comes from
CRS points come from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Comprehensive Ranking System criteria, as modified on June 22, 2026.
Language test conversions come from IRCC, Express Entry: language test results, as modified on June 22, 2026.
Work experience rules come from the IRCC program pages for the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
CVMaple is not affiliated with IRCC. This calculator gives an estimate; your official score is the one in your Express Entry profile. Rules change, so check the IRCC pages before you rely on a number.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum CRS score?
1,200 points: up to 600 for human capital (core, spouse and skill transferability) and up to 600 additional points. Without a provincial nomination, the realistic maximum is about 600 plus 95 for French, Canadian study and a sibling.
Do job offers still give CRS points?
No. IRCC removed job offer points on March 25, 2025, for everyone in the pool. A job offer can still help with Federal Skilled Worker eligibility, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and some provincial nominee streams.
Does my age change my score?
Yes. Age points peak from 20 to 29 and drop each year from 30, reaching 0 at 45. IRCC uses your age on the day you are invited, and your profile updates automatically on your birthday.
Should I include my spouse?
If your partner is coming to Canada, you must. Compare both ways: a partner with strong English or French and education can add up to 40 points, which makes up for the points you lose on your own factors. Either of you can be the principal applicant, so check who scores higher.
How many points is French worth?
NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities adds 25 points, or 50 if you also have CLB 5 or higher in all four English abilities. French also earns second-language points and makes you eligible for French-language category draws.
What CRS score do I need for an invitation?
It depends on the draw. General and nominee draws have the highest cut-offs, while French and occupation category draws are often lower. Check recent draws on IRCC’s rounds of invitations page and compare with the draws you qualify for.
How long is an Express Entry profile valid?
Up to 12 months, as long as you stay eligible and your test results and ECA stay valid. If you are invited, you have 60 days to submit your application for permanent residence.
Is this the same as the Federal Skilled Worker 67 points?
No. The 67-point grid decides whether you can enter the pool under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. The CRS ranks everyone once they are in the pool. You need to pass the first to be ranked by the second.
