The short version

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Sites also use similar tools, like local storage and tracking pixels, which work in much the same way. This policy covers all of them and calls them cookies for short.

Some are set by us (first party). Others are set by another company whose code runs on our pages (third party).

2. Cookies we need

These keep the site working. Without them you can't sign in or save anything.

Needed for the site to work
NameSet byWhat it does
Firebase sign-in (browser database)Google Firebase, for usKeeps you signed in between visits.
authToken (local storage)CVMapleProves to our server that a request comes from your account.
cvmaple-lang (local storage)CVMapleRemembers whether you chose English or French.
Settings and dismissed notices (local storage)CVMapleRemembers small choices, like your job tracker view or a banner you closed.
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sidStripeSet when a payment form opens, to prevent fraud. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Your language and settings stay on your device and aren't sent to us.

3. Analytics

These tell us which pages people read, where they get stuck and which features they use, so we know what to fix.

Analytics
NameSet byWhat it does
_ga, _ga_*Google AnalyticsCounts visits and pages viewed, and tells new visitors from returning ones. Lasts up to two years.
_clck, _clskMicrosoft ClarityLinks the pages of one visit together for heatmaps and session replays. _clck lasts a year, _clsk a day.

Clarity records clicks, scrolling and what appears on the page, then plays it back to us like a video. That includes the resume editor, so what you type there can show up in a replay. We only use replays to find bugs and confusing screens, and we don't share them outside our team.

4. Advertising

We advertise CVMaple on Google and on Meta's apps (Facebook and Instagram). These tags tell us whether someone who clicked an ad went on to sign up or buy, so we can stop paying for ads that don't work.

Advertising
NameSet byWhat it does
_gcl_auGoogle AdsLinks a visit to the Google ad that brought you here. Lasts about three months.
_fbp, _fbcMeta PixelLinks visits and actions like sign-up or purchase to Meta ads. Lasts about three months.

Meta also gets some events straight from our server, not only from your browser. When you sign up, start a checkout, buy something or run a resume check, our server sends Meta the event with a hashed copy of your email address, your IP address and browser details. Hashing turns your email into a scrambled string. Meta can match it to an account it already knows, but can't read it back as an address.

Google and Meta may use this to show you CVMaple ads elsewhere and to measure them. We don't sell your personal information to them or to anyone else.

5. Your choices

The analytics and advertising tags load as soon as you open the site. You can stop them in any of these ways:

If you block the items we need, you won't be able to sign in. Blocking analytics and advertising doesn't change anything you can do on CVMaple.

6. Canadian privacy law

We've written this policy with Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and Quebec's privacy law in mind, which expect sites to explain their tracking in plain language. The Privacy Policy covers the rest of how we handle your information and the rights you have.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a tag, we'll update this page and the date at the top.

8. Contact

Questions about cookies or tracking: privacy@cvmaple.ca, or use the contact page.

Cookie questions people ask

Does CVMaple use cookies?

Yes. A few keep you signed in and remember your language. The rest are analytics from Google and Microsoft and advertising tags from Google and Meta. Each one is listed on this page.

Can I use CVMaple with cookies blocked?

Mostly, yes. Blocking third-party cookies or using a content blocker won't stop anything from working. If you block all site storage, though, you won't be able to stay signed in.

Does CVMaple record my screen?

Microsoft Clarity records how our pages are used, like clicks, scrolling and what's on the page, and lets us replay a visit to find problems. It only records the CVMaple tab, not the rest of your screen or other apps.

How do I opt out of Google Analytics on CVMaple?

Install Google's opt-out add-on or block cookies from google-analytics.com in your browser. Either one works on every site, not only ours.
