How to write a delivery driver resume in Canada
Delivery driver jobs in Canada range from parcel routes in a cube van, to furniture and appliance delivery with a two-person crew, to food, pharmacy and auto parts runs in a car. Whichever it is, the employer and their insurer check the same things first: your licence class, how long you have held it and a clean driver's abstract. Put all three in your summary.
A regular licence (Class G in Ontario, Class 5 in most other provinces) covers cars, vans and most straight trucks under 11,000 kg. If you have an air brake endorsement, a Class D in Ontario, or experience on box trucks with a tail lift, say so, because it opens up better-paying routes. Mention whether you know the city or region well, and which areas you have covered.
Then give numbers. Stops per day, on-time delivery percentage, damage or missing parcel claims, and customer ratings all tell a dispatcher what kind of driver you are. Name the handheld scanners and route apps you have used, and mention circle checks, cargo securement and anything else that shows you look after the vehicle and the load.

Each one starts with what you did and ends with a result. Keep the shape and put your own numbers in.

- Kept a clean driving record and zero damage or missing parcel claims for 2 straight years
- Loaded the van in route order each morning, cutting average route time by 40 minutes

- Covered 6 extra routes during a holiday peak, delivering 1,000+ additional parcels in 2 weeks
Certifications and licences that help
Write each one out in full with the issuing body and the date. An employer should never have to guess what an acronym means or whether it has expired.
- Driver's licence (Class G, Class 5 or higher): Give the class and how long you have held it. Most employers want at least 2 to 3 years of driving.
- Clean driver's abstract: Employers and insurers check it. Say it is clean, and have a recent copy ready.
- Air brake endorsement: Opens up larger straight trucks. In Ontario it is the Z endorsement, and other provinces have their own version.
- Smart Serve (Ontario): Needed to deliver alcohol in Ontario. Other provinces have their own program.
What recruiters wish you knew
Put licence and abstract up front
Insurance decides who can drive, so dispatchers look for your licence class and a clean abstract before anything else. Put both in the first two lines.
Give your stop count and on-time rate
These are the numbers delivery companies live by. A driver who can say 140 stops a day and 99% on time is already speaking the manager's language.
Know your city
Knowing the roads, the buildings and the areas with tough parking saves time. Name the neighbourhoods or regions you have covered.
The section order for a delivery driver resume
Top to bottom, in the order a hiring manager in this field wants to read it.
- Contact details. City, phone and email, plus your driver's licence class if the job involves driving.
- Professional summary. Your trade, years on the job and your most useful ticket.
- Licences and tickets. Trade certificate, Red Seal, WHMIS, Working at Heights or forklift, each with a date.
- Work experience. Employer, the type and size of the work, and your safety record.
- Skills and equipment. Tools, machines and processes you can run without supervision.
- Education and training. Apprenticeship level or hours, trade school and safety courses.
What recruiters check first
Your trade ticket or Red Seal, WHMIS and Working at Heights, and the equipment you can run. Where to put it: A licences and tickets section near the top.
Common mistakes on delivery driver resumes
These come up again and again, and each one is quick to fix.
Leaving out your licence and record
Employers check these before anything else, and their insurer often decides for them. Put your licence class, how long you have held it and your clean abstract near the top.
Counting stops without the rate
140 stops a day is good. 140 stops at 99% on time with no damage claims is what gets you hired. Add your on-time and claims numbers.
Forgetting the customer part
The driver is often the only person a customer meets from the company. Ratings, compliments and a clean record with signatures and payments show you represent them well.
Before you send it
Six quick checks. Each takes less than a minute.
- The job title in your summary matches the one in the posting.
- Every certification is written out in full, with the issuing body and the expiry date.
- At least half of your bullets include a number.
- There is no photo, date of birth, marital status or SIN.
- It is saved as a PDF, unless the posting asks for a Word file.
- You ran it through the free resume check and fixed what it found.
Delivery Driver resume FAQ
What should a delivery driver resume include?
Your licence class and years held, a clean abstract, the vehicles you have driven, your stops per day and on-time rate, and any damage-free record. Add the areas you know, the scanners and apps you have used, and your availability.
What licence do I need to be a delivery driver in Canada?
For cars, vans and most straight trucks under 11,000 kg, a regular licence is enough: Class G in Ontario, Class 5 in most other provinces. Larger trucks and air brakes need extra classes or endorsements. Check the posting and list your exact class.
What skills should a delivery driver put on a resume?
Safe driving with a clean abstract, route planning, handheld scanners and proof of delivery, loading and securing loads, vehicle inspections and customer service. For soft skills, pick punctuality, time management and independence.
How do I write a delivery driver resume with no experience?
Lead with your licence, how long you have held it and your clean record. Then show any job where you were punctual, handled customers or lifted and moved goods, such as retail, warehouse or food service. Knowledge of the local area is a real plus.
Should I include gig delivery work on my resume?
Yes. Delivering for an app counts as real experience. Group it under one entry, such as Independent Delivery Driver, and give your number of deliveries, rating and years. It shows you know the city and can work on your own.
What is a good objective for a delivery driver resume?
One or two lines on your licence, record and route strengths. For example: Class 5 driver with a clean abstract and three years on parcel routes, looking for a full-time delivery position in Vancouver.
