How to write a pharmacy assistant resume in Canada
A pharmacy assistant works in the dispensary under a pharmacist, helping with prescription intake, data entry, counting and packaging, third-party billing, inventory and the front counter. Unlike a pharmacy technician, the assistant role is not regulated in Canada, so employers rely on your resume to tell them what you already know. The strongest signal is the dispensary software you have used, such as Kroll, Healthwatch, FillWare or Nexxsys.
Billing is the next thing a pharmacy manager checks. Adjudicating claims with provincial drug plans, like the Ontario Drug Benefit or BC PharmaCare, and private insurers through networks such as TELUS Health or Express Scripts Canada, and fixing rejected claims, is skilled work. Say how many prescriptions a day your pharmacy filled and what your part was. If you have prepared compliance or blister packs, helped with narcotic counts or managed ordering, those belong in your bullets.
Accuracy and privacy tie it all together. Pharmacies track dispensing errors closely, so a clean record is worth a line. If you have a pharmacy assistant certificate, or you are studying to become a regulated pharmacy technician, put it near the top. If you trained as a pharmacist outside Canada, an assistant role is a common first step while you work through the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) process.

Work experience bullet examples
Each one starts with what you did and ends with a result. Keep the shape and put your own numbers in.
- Entered 150+ prescriptions a day in Kroll for a pharmacy filling 350+ daily, with no data entry errors reaching patients in 3 years
- Adjudicated claims with ODB and 10+ private insurers, fixing rejected claims before patients reached the counter

- Answered 60+ phone calls a day about refills, transfers and pickup times, passing clinical questions to the pharmacist
- Trained 3 new assistants on the software, billing and dispensary workflow
Certifications and licences that help
Write each one out in full with the issuing body and the date. An employer should never have to guess what an acronym means or whether it has expired.
- Pharmacy Assistant certificate: A college or career college program. Include the school, year and any practicum pharmacy.
- Pharmacy Technician diploma (in progress): If you are working toward becoming a regulated technician, list the program and expected date.
- Standard First Aid and CPR: Useful in pharmacies that run vaccination clinics or serve many seniors.
- PEBC Evaluating Exam: For internationally trained pharmacists. List your stage in the process so managers understand your background.
What recruiters wish you knew
Name your dispensary software
A pharmacy that uses Kroll wants someone who already knows Kroll. Put your software in your summary, not only in a skills list, and say how long you have used it.
Give your pharmacy's volume
Filling 80 prescriptions a day and 400 a day are different jobs. The daily volume, and your share of it, tells a manager how fast and accurate you are.
Keep assistant and technician straight
Pharmacy technician is a regulated title in Canada. Unless you are registered with a provincial college, call yourself an assistant, and say if you are studying to become a technician.
The section order for a pharmacy assistant resume
Top to bottom, in the order a hiring manager in this field wants to read it.
- Contact details. Name, city and province, phone and email. No photo or date of birth.
- Professional summary. Two or three lines on your role, your years in care and the setting you want.
- Certifications and registration. Registration or certificate, First Aid and CPR, and a vulnerable sector check if the job needs one, each with a date.
- Work experience. Newest first, with the setting, who you cared for and what changed because of you.
- Skills. Care skills first, then the soft skills a bullet above can back up.
- Education. Program, school and year. Training from abroad goes here with its assessment.
What recruiters check first
Your registration or certificate (PSW, nursing, dental or pharmacy), First Aid and CPR, and a vulnerable sector check where the job needs one. Where to put it: Certifications, right under your summary.
Common mistakes on pharmacy assistant resumes
These come up again and again, and each one is quick to fix.
Mixing up assistant and technician
Pharmacy technician is a regulated title in most provinces, with its own registration. If you are an assistant, use that title. If you are working toward registration, say so plainly, with the program or exam and your expected date.
Leaving out the volume
A pharmacy filling 350 prescriptions a day is a different job from one filling 80. Give the daily volume and your part in it, so a manager knows you can keep up.
Forgetting accuracy
Errors matter more here than in most jobs. If your entries have held up, say so with a number, and mention the checks you do, like expiry date audits or narcotic counts.
Before you send it
Six quick checks. Each takes less than a minute.
- The job title in your summary matches the one in the posting.
- Every certification is written out in full, with the issuing body and the expiry date.
- At least half of your bullets include a number.
- There is no photo, date of birth, marital status or SIN.
- It is saved as a PDF, unless the posting asks for a Word file.
- You ran it through the free resume check and fixed what it found.
Pharmacy Assistant resume FAQ
What should a pharmacy assistant resume include?
The pharmacy software you use, the prescription volume you handle, your third-party billing experience, compliance packaging, inventory work and customer service. Add any pharmacy assistant certificate and state your accuracy record.
What is the difference between a pharmacy assistant and a pharmacy technician in Canada?
Pharmacy technicians are regulated. They pass PEBC exams, register with a provincial college and can take on more responsibility, such as the final technical check. Pharmacy assistants are not regulated and work under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician. Use the title that matches your status.
How do I get a pharmacy assistant job with no experience?
Start with any retail or customer service experience, especially cashiering in a pharmacy front shop. A pharmacy assistant certificate helps a lot, and so does showing accuracy with numbers and comfort with computers. Many assistants start at the pharmacy front counter and move into the dispensary.
Can an internationally trained pharmacist work as a pharmacy assistant?
Yes, and many do while working through the PEBC process to become licensed in Canada. On your resume, explain your background plainly, list the Canadian software and billing you have learned, and say where you are in the licensing steps.
What skills should a pharmacy assistant put on a resume?
Prescription data entry, third-party billing, compliance packaging, counting and labelling, inventory and ordering, and knowledge of drug names. For soft skills, pick accuracy, attention to detail, friendliness and discretion.
What is a good objective for a pharmacy assistant resume?
Keep it to one or two lines on your software, billing and accuracy. For example: Pharmacy assistant with two years in a busy community pharmacy, skilled in Kroll and third-party billing, looking to join a team with a strong compliance packaging program.
